What happens when you combine sweeping ocean views and mossy rainforest trails with an adventure seeking couple from Ontario? A freaking magical Vancouver Island Elopement. that's what! This trailside elopement was the beautiful "Just Us" wedding experience that Brittany and Nick had been dreaming of.
When we first connected, Brittany and Nick were in the beginning stages of planning a trip to Vancouver island to celebrate their recent engagement. We chatted on the phone and talked about our shared passion and love for the mountains and the sea. And for keeping things simple and eloping!
"We may just do that!" they said.
Spoiler alert....They Did!!
A "just us" intimate wedding experience. I felt so honoured to be a part of it. I can't think of a better place to say "I Do"
The Location: Stoney Hill Regional Park Elopement
After looking at and discussing multiple location options that included a combination of mountain and sea views, they chose Stoney Hill Regional Park in Cowichan on Vancouver Island which showcases the ocean set against the backdrop of the mountains on Salt Spring Island. This location is perfect for offering sweeping ocean view lookouts all connected by lush rainforest trails. The cliffside lookouts, the moss covered rocks, the carpet of ferns, and the arbutus and cedar forest all combine to make an ideal one stop shopping kind of elopement location on Vancouver Island!
The park is about halfway between Nanaimo and Victoria. You can expect a one hour drive to the trailhead from either location. The entire trail is a 3.7km loop with multiple look out points over Sansum Narrows between Vancouver Island and Salt Spring Island.
Vancouver Island Adventure Elopement Outfits
From the very first inquiry email with Brittany, we just clicked! I knew that we were going to plan the most beautiful Vancouver Island elopement session to capture an incredibly special moment in their lives. Brittany looked fabulous in her 2 outfit choices. She chose flowy dresses with a sexy-as-heck side slit that gave every dance move that much more pizzazz! She wore her red dress amidst the contrasting green of the forest and changed trail-side into her green dress to compliment the ocean blues at the lookout points. Nick wore a classic navy suit with suspenders.
We hiked in on the trail, stopped at beautiful lookout points, played their favourite music on my speaker and danced. Any worries or feelings of awkwardness quickly vanished and were replaced by feelings of joy and laughter and wonder as they marveled at the view.
It was pure magic!
